Just to let you know my old friend Jon Volz FTG3 62-64, had open heart surgery this past Monday at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinic. This one hits me hard since I've lost friends in our gang over the past year.Jon and I shared many good times during our time in service. He is in recovery and his wife tells me he's doing well. There is a message center set up at the hospital if anyone wants to post.

My borther, Grover E. Gilbert Jr and my brother in law, Jack W. Cunningham both served on the Gearing in the early 60's (approx 63-64). I am looking for anyone who may have served with either one or both. My brother is gone now, but Jack is still going strong.

I served aboard the Gearing from bfore the SOLANT AMITY cruise, until just after the Cuban missle crisis. I,ve just become aware of this website, and I would like to become a member of the association. I was a sonarman, and you can see my skinny self on page 15 of the yearbook.
