my father Raymond J. Sullivan was a original crew member of the Gearing. he is 86 years old. I was wondering if there are any other plank holders out there. Modify this entry (Protected) Remove this entry (Protected)

My comments about this site are:
I was a federal shipfitter working on #4 gun mount on the Gearing in the Boston Naval Shipyard when we had a collision at dockside with a new DE at the dock in front of us. Anything in the ships log about that little incident ? It was quite a day ! As far as I know, only one crew member was injured. The ship was getting ready for dock trials when something went wrong down in the engine room. I was on the main deck aft by #4 gun mount. This is a very true story. Any of the crew remember that day? My father was Commander from 1962-1964, including the Cuban Missile Crisis.
I have heard many stories, but was wondering if any of you can point me to the "definitive" book or transcript of events that occurred 50 years ago.
Thank you all for your service. Modify this entry (Protected) Remove this entry (Protected)

My father, Gary L. Faulkner, served on the Gearing from 64-68. He was a MM3. He had many fond memories of his time on the ship. He was very proud of his service. He always wanted to attend one of the reunions, but was never quite able to make it happen. Unfortunately, we lost him in 2003. Much too soon. As a tribute to our grandpa, Robert Roy Glass... me, my
sisters and mother got a memorial tattoo in his
handwriting the word "family" with an
anchor...symbolizing his time in the USN and him being
the "anchor" of our family...love it...he was a treasure Modify this entry (Protected) Remove this entry (Protected)

My Grandfather, Robert Roy Glass was a
shipmate on the U.S.S. Gearing, sadly, he
passed away 11-10-11 at the age of 80. he
would have gotten such a kick out of all this
info on "his" ship online. i really enjoyed the
website...i will continue to check it. brings a
smile to my face Modify this entry (Protected) Remove this entry (Protected)
