Earlier today I saw a man wearing a baseball cap indicating he was a WW2/Korean veteran. I thanked him for his service and asked what branch he was in. He served on the USS Gearing. Greetings from Roseburg, Oregon Modify this entry (Protected) Remove this entry (Protected)

My father served on the Gearing not sure what years I did send him the link to your page. You all should know I proudly march down the street in a fife and drum corp with his sevice patch on my arm of my uniform with the Ancient Mariners of CT.

Great newsletter. Excellent coverage of the Charleston reunion. Really sorry we will be unable to make the Flint, MI reunion. Last visit to Flint in 1954 to pick up a factory delivered Buick. It waas my vehicle while serving in the Gearing with the greatest crew in the Fleet. We had E's galore, good chemistry and Morale while serving in the atlantic and the Med. Have a grand time and we will join you in Tampa. Dick Hanley, Lt 1955-56 Modify this entry (Protected) Remove this entry (Protected)

As an E-6 Reservist assigned to the Navy & Marine Corps Reserve Center in New Orleans I served 2 weeks ACDUTRA on USS Gearing to bring her from Naples, Italy to the New London, Connecticut for decommissioning. On active duty, I was stationed in San Diego for 5 years on the USS Bausell (DD-845), a Gearing Class Destroyer. Modify this entry (Protected) Remove this entry (Protected)
