My grandfather served on DD-710 from 62 to 64. His name was William Jr. Albrecht (BM2) When I was little me and family would drive 9 hours from Montreal to Cape may, New Jersey to visit him and I remember always looking at the photographs of the USS Gearing he had up. I never really got any information of what he did on-board during the cuban missile crisis because he sadly passed in August of 2015. If anybody's got info it would be appreciated, thank you

Son of Dudley S. Lancaster. My brother and I used to come aboard for Sunday Dinner with mother, Mildred, when in port at Norfolk or Little Creek, VA. What fun to have a fighting ship of the US Navy to play on! The crew, especially the officer's mess personnel were always friendly to us. I remember it fondly. Thanks.

I was there around 1968 with the Navy League. We did a two-week drill with a Canadian unit. Every one of those sailors were true professional. It left a lasting impression on me to this day. Ended up going to Army ROTC at Rutgers University and did 20 years. Would have done Navy, but there was no Navy ROTC at the time.

My Father MALCOLM JONES was FT3, then FTa3 on the USS Gearing during his enlistment 1952- 1956. He passed away in 2005, I would like to find any and all information or stories that may relate to him. He was an accomplished artist and told me he drew portraits of many of his fellow sailors. I hope to hear from you. Thank you, Moses Jones

My Grandfather serves on the original crew of the DD710. His names is William Frank Marion 2SC. I have seen his name on the Plank Owners list. I found your site as I was searching for information and archives on his service and the Gearing. Great site! I do have his information regarding his service, and every letter he has sent back to his wife, my Grandmother. I may have photos as well. If someone would like to contact me via email, I will verify. God Bless America!
