I got on the ship in Malta and made the Med cruise and finished my tour on the Gearing in the Boston shipyard. I remember tailing Russian ships ect.

Started my career here as CIC Officer n EW Officer. I learned a lot about my job and being a good officer from the best group of men I ever served with. My father retired from the Navy (20 hrs) in 1961 and taught me that the best people to learn from and listen to was the crew. He was so right! Great to read all the comments from all who served during my time on board. It certainly was an interesting Med deployment with all the reserves inboard!

My father served on the USS Gearing DD710 from 1956-1960. He is not a computer person, so I entered this for him. He talks fondly of his Navy days and would be so thrilled to find some of his Navy friends.
