I served aboard the Gearing in the Weapons Division as an ASROC Gunners Mate. I was aboard when she was home ported in Newport, RI. and then made a reserve training ship and home ported in New London, Ct.

I remember many fine days aboard Gearing, with wonderful shipmates.
One of my favorites was Russell A. Marcellus, who was the second of the three commanding officers while I was aboard. The other officers and crew members are far too numerous to list. My best wishes to all.

Came on board to make a MED cruise. Had a great time; saw parts of 21 countries and 3 continents. Went to Paris over new years with Bob Laba and Little Doc Brendle. Duties ;Legal Yeoman, leave and liberty , deck logs, crypto. Came from USS Gearing DD 710. Swapped ships with Raul Raposa summer 59.
