69 swim call. Any one remember Current taking everyone away from ship Life preservers are being thrown over but not far enuff for some to Grab I Went over the fantail grabed life preservers Pull them to the ones that couldn''t Swim to get them.as A matter of fact I was last one out of the water before
Rope ladder was pulled. I Guess that did not Anticipate the current and Spanic. If some one remembers please text.

I am unable to attend the 2015 reunion in Virginia due to health issues

Came aboard when the Gearing replaced the John W Weeks in Groton, CT, as the northeast reserve training ship. Really hated those nights anchored off of Block Island

I served aboard the Gearing in the Weapons Division as an ASROC Gunners Mate. I was aboard when she was home ported in Newport, RI. and then made a reserve training ship and home ported in New London, Ct.
