Was stationed aboard as an FN in the forward fireroom until discharged in July. Reenlisted and changed to Airdale and retired again in 79.Was refered to the site by PBR Fva.Nice to see the old 2250.

Was onboard for a short time in 1945 as a lee helmsman out of Jacksonville, Fla. Were with another destroyer and CVE looking for lone German Subs after the war. No problems, nothing exciting. She was a great ship. At that time we did 45 knots flank speed at one time!!!

I saw where one of your shipmates visited my ships homepage USS Rainier AE-5, so I paid a courtsey call to the Gearing. I was a Radioman 2nd class on Rainier from 10-62 thru 08-66. You guys obviously had a good ship but Rainier was a great ship. Guess all old sailors feel that way about their ships. Luck to you all and visit the USS Rainier AE-5, we've got a great home page.
