Arrived aboard Gearing as an RMSN Nov '61 at Boston Yards. Departed at Civitevecchia, Italy; transferred to NAVCOMMSTA Nea Makri, Greece. Discharged Aug, '67 from USS Francis Marion (APA-249) at Norfolk. Enlisted US Air Force Sep, '67; retired as Master Sergeant 12/31/80. Have slides and photos from time aboard Gearing but currently have no scanning equipment to digitize them.

My Dad, Mike Norfolk, was on the Gearing from the time I was in the 3rd grade until the beginning of the 9th grade. We were alsways there to meet the ship when she came home & it was a point of honor with me to be the first whon on the gangplank when she tied up. I have the scrapbook for the Enlisted Men's Wive Club that mom, Mary Norfolk, help found. My Dad tells me about the reunions & who he runs into & I'm hoping to join him for a futture reunion.
