I was a member of the first USS Rogers DD/DDR-876 in 1945. I understand now that she is in service to the South Korean navy as the Jeon Ju. I think that there were 99 Gearing class cans were built and that many are still in service to other governments. They were truly GREAT CANS.

Hi. My dad, Len Maltese, served aboard the Gearing in 52-55 and he always talks of the great time aboard her with some of you. Several months ago, I said to him "hey pop, hook me up with your pals from the Gearing and I'll donate my skills as a webmaster and some server space". Low and behold, you old squids beat me to the punch! Way to go. If I can be of assistance, I'd be glad to donate time and server space. Dad is in NY as I type this. He was stricken with neck and throat cancer and is in the hands of the best doctors they got. They got *all* of the bad stuff out, and he is waiting radiation and chemotherapy. His spirits are OK and hearing from some of you guys that sailed with him would really lift his spirits. You guys take care, and see you on the web.

I'll try it again, I served on the Kyes, DD787 from 7-65 to 6-67. Your pics of the Gearing really brings back memories! Westpac tours, shore bombardment off S. vietnam, Subic Bay... well some things are better left untold! I need info on the Kyes DD787, so e-mail me if anyone reads this and has any. Pics would realy be nice. I have one thing left from that time, a ships ashtray, oh, and lots of memories.
