My father was a crew member on the U.S.S. Gearing. Became a blue nose on the ship in 1951. He was MRC William Sarsfield Heffernan.

My father was a crew member on the U.S.S. Gearing. Became a blue nose on the ship in 1951. He was MRC William Sarsfield Heffernan. The Gearing was the last ship he served on, He passed away July 1, 1955.

Sorry to learn of the passing of one of my friends, Herb Gray.I served with him aboard the Greenwood DE 679 as a gunnersmate.Herb and I were both from Pa.Had the pleasure of hearing from him in 2006.I informed the other men from the Greenwood .I know they are saddened as much as I about a fallen hero to us all.
