My comment about this site are:
It is truly unfortunate that former shipmate BT2 Gary Huygen can call himself a United States Navy veteran. Considering some of the anti-American editorial rhetoric he sends into the local newspaper, you would think he is an American hating UC Berkeley college student, not a veteran of our armed forces. Just ask him what he writes to the Press Democrat on occasion. I know he will claim Free Speech, and all that hype. But he should still be ashamed. He couldn't even tell the difference between a gas turbine powered ship, and a steam ship. Sad.............

My comment about this site are:
I'm a Field Engineer for a company that work on Electronics systems on board a lot of foreign ex-US Ships. I just returned from Mexico and saw the USS Gearing. It has just been decommissioned, still looks great. The Mexican Navy was also quite proud of it and even offered it up for a museum , but no takers. They have cut the mast off with all the antennas, SPS-40 and 10 still attached and installed it as a permanent monument at the Electronics Center at Manzanilla, Colima , Mexico. It is on the edge of the water at the Navy Base. It has been replaced by a Knotts class ship. I love old ships, hate to see it go.

My comment about this site are:
As most of you know, I am the author of the four-book THE SIXTH FLEET series published by Penguin Putnam under their Berkley imprint. The last book THE SIXTH FLEET COBRA was released on August 6th. I was deployed on USS GEARING(DD-710) in 1969/70. It was the first ship I served on and I included it in the first book THE SIXTH FLEET to make a battle cry for the series, which was 'Remember the Gearing.' My respects to all of you for the service you have given your country and for the patriotism you continue to uphold. Cheers, David E. Meadows.

I was mistaken, I thought the USS Orleck had a terrific site. Actually we do, but yours...........? wow. BZ To all involved. I served aboard the Orleck in 65 & 66 and have been active in our association for about 3 years. I am currently the historian for the group and I wanted to point you towards something you might enjoy. We are transcribing all 37 years of the ships deck logs into excel and installing them in our site. We are only about 5% complete, but it does make for some good reading. Just go to http://www.ussorleck.com and click on the appropriate link. Have fun and again, well done on your site.
