This is my Uncle Abram "Bud" Flurie. He served from 1946-1948 on board the Gearing. He would like to hear from any of his shipmates. You can also contact him through me (his niece Mary Flurie Burns) at moosefan35@yahoo.com. My father George L. Burns, Jr was a plank owner on the Gearing. Sailed on reserve Med Cruise in 1971. We spilled oil while refueling in Rota Spain and were never allowed to go into any port except Naples and then Rota on the way back home. Modify this entry (Protected) Remove this entry (Protected)

My comments about this site are:
The '69 med cruise we took a few heavy rolls.
I had to go up to the bridge for an Officer's
signature and it looked like we were taking full
waves over the bridge. Everyone was holding
on to something and if it wasn't lashed down it
went flying. Shipmates were throwing up all
over the place. Oh, what memories. Kincaid,
did we take that heavy of a roll? Glad it wasn't
rough. Modify this entry (Protected) Remove this entry (Protected)

Retired Data Communications Consultant. Had good and bad times while aboard, but only seem to remember the good. Kudos to Mr. Provost for setting up this site. Remember you well as my once divison officer when you were an Ensign. Modify this entry (Protected) Remove this entry (Protected)

Was a part of the final crew that left Gearing for the Turkish
navy. Moved over onto Charles P. Cecil when we decommissioned
Gearing and stayed there till 1976. Retired as LCDR in 1992.
Would enjoy hearing from any Gearing/Cecil guys that remember
me. Modify this entry (Protected) Remove this entry (Protected)
